Historic facts about
Rauchkopfhütte…
A brief review.
The installation of a double chairlift to Rauchkopf in Zauchensee and a T-bar lift on the side of Untertauern provided the opportunity for Friedrich and Maria Haym to set up the Rauchkopfhütte. They started construction in 1975, finished it in 1976, and started doing business in the same winter.
In order to be granted permission to operate a restaurant, Maria Haym did her licence exam for catering business at the age of 52. Over the years, Friedrich, Maria and their twelve children have worked together to build up the business.
Rauchkopfhütte has always been a family business. When Friedrich and Maria retired in September 1983, Michi, one of the sons, together with his wife Veronika continued the business. Many guests still remember the previous generation and frequently ask about Michi’s siblings.
The first expansion took place during the summer of 1984, and consisted of the first terrace with outside tables and more space for relaxing in the sun.
In 1991, Rauchkopfhütte undertook a major refurbishment: the terrace was modified and extended, rooms for employees and new toilets were built, our cosy “Stüberl” was created and the sewer connection was engineered.
In 2000, our wintergarden with hydraulic roof was erected above part of the terrace.
The latest expansion took place in 2005: more individual en-suite rooms for employees, new storage rooms and a much larger and more modern kitchen were built. At the same time, we introduced table service and created a large bar as meeting place in the centre of the restaurant.
